Make Studying Fun and Easy

By Abigail Reyes on April 24, 2014

Although most people don’t think of studying as something “fun”, you really can make it more enjoyable with a few strategies and the right mindset. Here are a few ideas to help you turn up the fun during your next study session!

  1. Set your notes to music. If you find yourself struggling to remember dates, facts or figures, try setting them to some upbeat music and substituting the lyrics. Once you’re taking your exam you can simply recall the tune and the facts will come to you.
  2. Create a mind map. A mind map is a great way to connect all of the concepts that you have been learning. You can decorate your mind map and explain it to your friends or family.
  3. Make posters. You can make colorful posters with important facts or concepts, which you can hand around your room, next to the bathroom mirror or any other place you might frequently visit.
  4. Play interactive learning games online. There are plenty of free games that you can find online to help you study. You might even forget that you are studying!
  5. Draw pictures to illustrate important points. If you are a visual learner, you can try drawing crazy pictures to help you remember definitions of important words or facts.
  6. Use cute stationary and desk gear. Having cute notebooks, bright sticky notes and colorful pens and markers are a fun way to motivate yourself to study and take notes.
  7. Watch videos online. If you are feeling a little lazy but still need to study, or if staring at your textbook is just not working, try looking up a video about the subject you need to study for. You can find some really awesome videos online and might even learn more from them by simply listening than from reading your textbooks.
  8. Study with a friend or group. A fun way to study with friends is by turning the material into trivia questions and turning it into a learning game. As an incentive, you can all chip in for a prize at the end for the winner, like a $10 gift card to a coffee shop.
  9. Turn it into a story or perform a dramatic reading of your textbook. Instead of trying to memorize a list of boring facts, you can try working them into a funny and memorable story that will stick with you. You can have fun while making it interesting by reading the textbook out loud, involving your friends in the story, singing and incorporating accents. You can try this for history, biology, and even math.
  10.  Have the right mindset. Don’t think of studying as something burdensome that you have to do. Think of it as a window of opportunity to become a more educated citizen and expand your knowledge. There are people out there who would love to be in your place.
