“FSU London Lads” presents Patrick O’Bryant!

Since the FSU London Ladies Series went over so well, we expanded to FSU London Lads as well. Florida State University has an amazing international program, and according to their site, “Florida State is among the nation’s elite for study abroad totals.” The London program in particular has much to offer, and the students that make up the program are intelligent, unique, and driven. So it’s my pleasure to feature these lovely FSU London lads!

Patrick is enrolled in the FSU international internship program in London. “The Florida State University’s long-established London Program has resulted in a unique offering of prestigious internships. A city among the world’s most important cultural, political, and financial capitals, London has a wealth of organizations and businesses offering positions that can expand horizons and make careers. All interns are assigned a placement prior to departure for London. All internships are full-time. Students will not be able to take classes at the study center along with their internships.”

Patrick is an economics and political science double major, graduating this May. He’ll start Harvard Law School this fall. He’s also a minor internet celebrity (check out why here), 2006 Time Magazine Person of the Year (find out more here), and he’s pretty sure his spirit animal is an otter. Read Patrick’s interview below!

Q: What is your favorite color? If so, why?

POB: Blue. If I could give you an explanation I would, I just like it the most.

Q: Do you have a favorite number? If so, why?

POB: Three. I really don’t have a reason for liking the number three; it was just easy to count to when I was a little kid. But you do look real tough when you throw up a three-hunna sign in pictures, so three is still a pretty cool number.

Q: What’s your favorite food and why?

POB: Fried chicken because I’ve never had any food that I thought tasted better.

Q: Would you rather be the star player of a losing team or riding the bench of winning one?

POB: Definitely would rather ride the bench on a winning one. Nobody gets hype about losing, not even the all-star. Look at Carmelo on the Knicks this year before they shut him down for the season; losing sucks. Everyone gets hype about winning though, and riding the bench basically gives me really good season tickets.

Q: What’s your favorite article of clothing and why?

POB: My favourite article of clothing is actually My straw FSU hat. I got it right before the 2013-2014 football season, and I went to all 14 games that year. I wore the hat to every game, and we never lost. Every time I’ve worn that hat, FSU has won, and I’ve become rather superstitious about it.

Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?

POB: Someone who makes a positive difference in the world.

Q: Would you rather be the sandcastle or the wave?

POB: The wave, easy. The sandcastle is just going to get knocked over or stepped on by some little kid. As a wave I don’t take any of that.

Q: Who is your role model?

POB: My parents. I’ve learned a lot of little things from a lot of different people, but my parents taught me the most important lessons. They’re my rocks in life.

Q: Would you rather be a dog named Killer or a cat named Fluffy?

POB: A dog named Killer. Dogs are cooler than cats, and being named Killer just makes me sound tough.

Q: Who is your celebrity crush?

POB: Emma Watson, hands down. The work she is doing as the UN Ambassador for Women is simply amazing, the fact that she is using her platform to do actual life changing work really impresses me. She’s incredibly smart, I mean she graduated from Brown, and she’s super funny. She’s pretty much a real life version of Belle. I don’t really have much of a fascination with celebrities, but she is certainly my exception. Fun fact 1: I once tweeted out a resume as to why she should go on a date with me. Fun fact 2: it didn’t work.

Also, Kelly Kapowski.

Q: What’s your favorite place in the world?

POB: I think the most beautiful place in the world is the Maroon Bells in Colorado in June when they’re still snow-capped, they’re gorgeous. My favorite place personally is Deer Valley Ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado. My family has gone there every summer for a decade now, and I’ll spend my second summer working there this year. It’s just really special to me and an amazing part of the world.

Q: Would you rather know it all or have it all?

POB: I’d rather know it all, because then I would know I wouldn’t want to have it all. Plus, then I’d know whatever I needed to know to have the things I wanted anyway so it would all work itself out.
