"FSU London Ladies": Olivia Gilmore
“FSU London Ladies” presents its lady of the week, Olivia Gilmore!
Florida State University has an amazing international program, and according to their site, “Florida State is among the nation’s elite for study abroad totals.” The London program in particular has much to offer, and the students that make up the program are intelligent, unique, and driven. The spring semester is over, so this is the end of this series of the FSU London Ladies. But it’s been my absolute pleasure to feature them!
Olivia is currently enrolled in the First Year Abroad program. “The First Year Abroad (FYA) program allows students to complete the first twelve months of their Florida State careers studying abroad with International Programs. Students can choose to spend their first year at any of our study centers: London, England; Florence, Italy; Panama City, Republic of Panama; Valencia, Spain. Students can opt to change their location for the summer term and spend it at another study center, though visa restrictions apply for some locations.” An added bonus: FYA students who are in good judicial standing qualify for out of state tuition waivers allowing students to pay in-state tuition rates for the remainder of their first undergraduate degree at Florida State in Tallahassee.
Olivia Madison Gilmore is a Connecticut-born-and-bred First Year Abroad student. She prides herself on the amount of glitter she wears on a daily basis, and her selfie-taking abilities. Her favorite activity is laughing, especially at her own jokes, and singing anything and everything that comes to her head. She quite literally puts the “OMG” into everyday life. Oftentimes called a sassmaster. “I disagree,” says Olivia, “I’m far more like a sass Queen. What’s America like? I haven’t been there since August.”
Read her interview below!
Q: What is your favorite color?
OG: I feel obligated to say pink because I’m girly and I do like pink, but actually it’s orange. My room back in America is painted orange and it’s just a nice and warm color. And since I’m a redhead now, my hair is orange. Plus you’d probably never guess that my favorite color is orange, which is why I like it too. I really like colors though. Like in my opinion wearing black is a cop-out. I wear a lot of colored mascara and eye-liner. Also anything that involves glitter I’m a huge fan of. Most of my shoes are glittery (because I’m secretly a seven-year-old girl).
Q: Do you have a favorite number?
OG: OMG YES. okay, so you’re going to think I’m crazy but there is actually a conspiracy with the number 52! I’m only half joking here- think about it- how many weeks in a year? how many cards in a deck? How many calories are in one cup of chopped raw carrots? What’s the day Harry Potter killed Voldemort/ the day Osama Bin Laden was killed (hint, May 2nd!!) PLUS 5+2= 7 which is everyone’s “go to number” AND 5-2=3 which is the universal magic number! Maybe I’m crazy but like hey, the illuminati.
Q: What’s your favorite food and why?
OG: Probably like fruit roll-ups with tattoos on them (but only ironically) because I like the tattoos… or pizza because… I don’t really need a reason to like pizza, do I? Pizza is pretty much the main reason I‘m spending my summer terms in Florence.
Q: Would you rather live one 1,000 year life or ten 100 year lives?
OG: Oh ten 100 year lives, hands down. First of all, I don’t even want to know what I’ll look like when I’m 1,000. Second, If I get 10 lives I can be 10 different people, and experience life through different things. Plus that’s one more life than a cat gets and cats are pretty cool so it’d be like cool+1.
Q: What’s your favorite article of clothing and why?
OG: THE SASSY DRESS. Okay, I have this dress that is lace that’s either red or orange, no one can ever decide, and it’s def my fave. I was stalking myself on instagram (@ThatOMGkid) the other day and realized I have way too many pictures of myself in that dress on instagram. It’s deemed the sassy dress, because I feel extra sassy in it, even though I feel super sassy all the time.
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
OG: Ideally, Amy Poehler, but since I’m pretty positive that’s not possible/ legal, I’ll just settle for doing exactly what she does. idk sometimes I’m funny.
Q: Would you rather have the ability to read minds (you will be illiterate)? Or would you rather have just the ability to read?
OG: Read is sort of ambiguous. I mean, obviously you mean, like, reading words but I think I’m going to interpret it to be both reading books AND reading people, because if I can read people really well, I won’t have to read their minds. The power of body language. So… the latter.
Q: Who is your role model?
OG: Amy Poehler (see above) and Tina Fey would have to be up there. Also love Mindy Kaling. I just like seeing strong women in comedy because it’s definitely a male-dominated field.
Q: Who is your celebrity crush?
OG: lol. People make fun of me for having a lot of celebrity (and tbh real-life) crushes. I’m a little boy crazy. I mean, about every 20 minutes I say “Omg I’m actually in love with *insert boy name here*” but to think of just a few off the top of my head, Austin Butler, Andy Samberg, Jo Go-Lev, Scott Disick, Andrew Garfield, Dave Franco, ZEffron, Any attractive blonde guy, any attractive redhead guy (soz brunettes…)
Q: What’s your favorite place in the world?
OG: Hm. This is a difficult one. If you had asked me a year ago I would’ve said the Outer Banks in North Carolina, because that’s where I go with my cousins and family every summer. But now that I’ve spent 8 months in Europe I can answer, like, pretentiously. I really enjoyed Prague, it’s very beautiful. Southern France was nice too, although a bit cold since it was Christmas/ New Years.
Q: Would you rather eat chocolate flavored poop? Or poop flavored Chocolate?
OG: poop flavored chocolate sounds like a wizard thing, so I think I’ll go with that. People are going to think I really like Harry Potter now that I’ve mentioned it twice. Though to be honest, I’ve really only read them all once a couple years ago.
