Summer Fashion For The Classy Girl

By Alexia Gonzalez on May 22, 2015

Summer fashion is synonymous with short shorts, short dresses, see-through fabrics, and basically tons of skin exposure.

Although most of us ladies like to hike up our hemlines due to the scorching summer heat, there is no denying that some use this as an opportunity to show off a little – or a lot.

Summer may be the perfect time to flash a little bit of skin, but that doesn’t mean that every girl is on board with the cleavage brigade. Some of us prefer a more demur approach with more conservative fashions.

So if bearing it all is not really your style, fear not ladies! There are plenty of ways to rock some stylish and even sexy summer ensembles without having to expose all of your essentials.

Keeping it classy doesn’t mean that you have to cover up everything but your ankles, it simply means creating a sartorial balance. You want to appear polished and chic, not trashy but certainly not overly conservative.

This look is easy to achieve with almost every summer staple, sanz bikini. So keep an open mind to unexpected warm weather pairings that can take you from summer beach bunny to sun kissed glamazon.

Check out these elegant summer staples that every classy gal should have in her warm weather wardrobe!

The Versatile Maxi Dress

A solid maxi dress is one of the most versatile pieces that you can own for the summer months. The best part about the maxi is that it can be reworked and re-worn over and over again. It’s essential to have such a piece in your closet that you can mix, match and style in different ways.

Most maxis are cute and demur enough to wear all on their own, or you can try spicing your look up with some outer wear. Try wrapping a vibrant scarf around your shoulders for a little extra dose of color for your maxi.

For a dressed up look, layer a crop top over your maxi dress and pair it with wedges for something unexpected.

To make dressing up a bit easier, look for a long maxi with an ornate print or pattern for a classy approach to the bohemian chic aesthetic.

White Pants

A fitted pair of white pants or capris is a summer must-have. Not only do they provide a mature alternative to denim shorts, they allow any ensemble to appear polished and feminine.

The advantage of white bottoms is that they can take you from a lunch date to a happy hour outing and are a great contrast to most vivid summer colors. Just pair some white skinnies with a bright and breezy blouse, add some metallic accessories and some eye-catching sandals and you’re all set for a day (or night) of summer fun!

Palazzo & Wide Legged Pants

With the scorching heat already making its debut, breezy and comfortable is what every woman should seek in her outfit choices. Even for the not so conservative girl, we all need a bit of variety from the go-to sundress.

And a lot of the time, shorts may seem way too casual and may not be suitable for every occasion. This is why designers brought back this strongly feminine and powerful piece of clothing to the catwalks this season: wide leg trousers!

Palazzo pants are super wide-leg, loose, flowing pants, usually with a print or pattern, that were all the rage back in the ’60s and ’70s. This year the trend is making a grand return to the fashion scene. It is an excellent summer season style due to its loose cut and breathable fabric.

Wide legged pants can be worn casually, with a simple t-shirt, tank, or simply as a beach cover up. For a more formal setting, add an embellished crop top or a vest to add some structure. You can even rock these pants to work, just tuck in a button up blouse and cinch your waist with a belt.

Add some pizzazz to your palazzos with a statement necklace or even a floppy hat for a boho chic vibe.

Tunic Dress

The tunic dress is the perfect polished alternative to the typical summer sundress. Tunics are usually simple in style, with a loose fit, and can fall anywhere between the hips and ankles. They’re great for throwing on over your summer swimwear but can also double as stylish city dresses.

There are a range of tunic dresses on offer this season, so you’re bound to find a version that suits your style.

A printed tunic is a simple and ready to go summer ensemble, that can be dressed up with jewelry, wedges, or even brown ankle booties. If you like a bit more length in your dresses, try a longer tunic.

Sheer, lightweight styles will still keep you cool in the summer months and still look stylish. Wear them with bejeweled sandals and printed headscarves for a vacation inspired look.
