5 Signs You Know You’re a Bandwagoner
It is that time of year when things in sports start to get interesting. We’re in the midst of a World Series, the NBA is officially underway, and the NFL season is about halfway over. Below is a list of the five most obvious signs that you, or someone you know, is a certified Bandwagoner.
1. You Only Know the Starters.
If you can name your starting lineup, then good for you. You should. If you can name your bench, then more respect. We all know those people who use players’ nicknames way too often just to prove they know what they’re talking about, but buddy, we know you don’t. Good job on knowing the popular guy though.
2. You Bought Your Jersey &/or Hat Last Week.
If you recently purchased an item related to “your” team, and it happens to be the first sports related item in your wardrobe, then I’m not buying it, and I’m pretty sure no one else is either. You’re a true fan when you proudly wear your Mets Gary Carter jersey, or the Dolphins hat your dad passed down to you from the late 60’s. But we understand, you have to start somewhere. Maybe just decide at the beginning of the season next time.
3. You Don’t Know their Overall Record.
If you are unaware of the ratio of games “your” team has won compared to the loss, than you may just have to leave. Leave the idea that you consider yourself a fan. It’s one thing to relatively know the teams standing, but it’s another to not know anything… at all.
4. You Still Don’t Know the Rules.
Don’t be that guy who confuses the NBA with the NFL, or any sport for that matter. The Tennessee Warriors are not a thing, and Dwyane Wade does not play hockey. Well maybe he does in his spare time, but that is certainly not why he gets paid millions. If you still mix up a travel with a strike, than you may want to use google to your advantage. Or just realize sports may not be your thing.
5. You Mix Up Leagues & Divisions.
If wanting to consider yourself a fan, you must keep up with roster deadlines, player trades, and the coaching staff. Not saying you have to get a Team Stream notification for every small update, but it can’t hurt. Know your division, what league you play in, and of course “your” rivals. It’s Jets OR Giants. Pick. Flip a coin. Do whatever you must to help you decide, but you cannot go for both. Unless you like being considered a Bandwagoner that is.
We see Bandwagoner’s all around us, or maybe we don’t. When it’s GameDay, you’ll know. It is fair to say that many are actual fans. It is also fair to say that half those following are solely following because they are winning, unfortunately. If actually interested, do your research, learn “your” players (including their number and positions), and “your” opponents. There’s room for everyone to be a fan of the giant world of sports. We just want to see more that share the same passion, and knowledge.
