FSU Spring Game Will Get You Pumped For Next Season

Football in Tallahassee is a way of life. If you don’t have at least three FSU bumper stickers on your car, you don’t have enough school spirit. If the Marching Chiefs’ Warchant Remix isn’t your ringtone, you’re not a true fan. If you don’t still get goosebumps after your 18th view of Kelvin Benjamin snagging “The Catch” to win the 2013 BCS Championship game, are you sure you didn’t root for Auburn? Okay, some of you are probably wondering at this point if I actually physically bleed garnet and gold. Although that’s (unfortunately) biologically impossible, I do take Seminole football very seriously. If you’re anything like me or the other football-hungry Florida State students around campus, the end of the fall semester means that you have to wait another 8 months until our champs hit the field again. Sure, you can catch football games via the NFL until the beginning of February, but nothing can fill the void of longing for a sea of 80,000 bellowing the Warchant while the boys in garnet and gold defend our “unconquered” pride.

So, for those of us who consider football to be our second religion, what are we to do?

Two words: Spring Game.

Every year, FSU Athletics hosts a scrimmage that gives fans a taste of what is to come in the upcoming football season. The game sees the existing players – those who have not left the program via either graduation or entering the NFL – split up into the Garnet team and Gold team. They face off in an incredibly entertaining friendly matchup that satisfies the deepest of yearnings for collegiate competition.

In addition to its ability to give fans a fix for football, the Spring Game also brilliantly showcases the talents of the players that will hit the field come September. In the 2015 matchup, fans saw newcomers like safety Derwin James snatch interceptions out of the air and running back Jacques Patrick charge up the field for important yardage. Those who have experience playing for the Seminoles, like the impeccable kicker Roberto Aguayo, let fans know that their talent wasn’t going anywhere.

With the 2015 football season over, Seminoles fans are left wondering who will take over at the quarterback position in the fall. Although Sean Maguire, J.J. Cosentino, and Deondre Francois are expected to return, the addition of Malik Henry will definitely shake things up in the staff’s search for a new starting QB. Henry is ranked by ESPN as the No. 2 best dual-threat quarterback from the 2016 class. Anticipated to play in the Spring Game as an early enrollee at the university, Henry will have an opportunity to show fans and staff what he has to offer for the position.

Pack your bags Seminoles, because this year’s Spring Game will be held at the Orlando Citrus Bowl on April 9 at 5pm. Tickets start at $5.
