Winter Fashion Essentials On Campus

By Daphne Britt on October 31, 2016

As the warm weather begins to cool down, so do our fashion choices as we head to our morning classes in the cold. In other words …winter is coming! Even though I’m not a big fan of being outside in the cold, I do love winter fashion! Just because your classes are early in the mornings doesn’t mean you have to suffer from being unprepared for the harsh low temperatures.

Plus with the right essentials and clothing, you can not only stay warm while heading to class, but look incredible at the same time! So to prepare you for when you’re on the go in the cold mornings, I’ve narrowed it down to the top eight winter fashion essentials to wear when you’re on the go on campus.

1) Beanie

One of my favorite fashion pieces is the beanie! Whether you’re trying to hide your bed hair because you’re in a rush to get to class or want a cute head piece to accessorize your outfit, this product is a must! This winter essential can be worn to give you that classic casual look. Plus, you can’t go out into the cold weather without a hat to keep your head warm and your outfit on point!

2) Scarf

Whether you’re in need to make a bold statement with vibrant colors or want to remain with the classic knit fabric as you keep your face and neck warm, scarves are very flexible accessories. This item is a must have when you’re in a rush and on the go. Paired with both casual and professional outfits, you can’t go wrong with a scarf.

3) Cardigan

Winter fashion wouldn’t be the same without the popular cardigan sweaters that can be paired with any type of outfit. From Aztec designs to simple knitted colors for a more professional look, there are endless styles. This item is my personal favorite, especially when paired with a simple shirt, skinny jeans, and completed with combat boots.

According to Georgia Alexia Benjou from www.5280.com, “Between the cozy materials (think: wool, leather, and suede), rich colors, and requisite layering, fall calls for a variety of looks.”

Easy to put on when you’re just heading out or in need to finalize your outfit, this essential is too fabulous for winter.

4) Crewneck Sweatshirts

My favorite piece of winter clothing is the crew (aka crewneck sweatshirt). Not only does it keep you warm but there are several different colors to choose from! A loose long sleeved shirt with thick fabric is my best friend (seriously it’s so warm I think it’s a blanket) whether you style it with skinny jeans, leggings, and your choice of knee high or combat boots. The crewneck sweatshirt is great to have whenever you feel the need to dress quick for class, just don’t fall asleep during your professor’s lecture!

5) Leather Jacket

The leather jacket is what I like to call the hardcore winter fashion essential because it screams “I don’t care” and is super cute when paired with skinny jeans or a colorful skirt, sweater, and combat boots. Trust me when I say I’ve already asked my mom to put this fabulous item on my Christmas list.

According to Megan Pustetto from www.thetrendspotter.net, “A leather jacket is crucial for every winter wardrobe and adds instant edge and coolness to any outfit.”

Even though it’s more fashion and less warmth in terms of dealing with cold weather, it’s still considered one of my favorite jackets to wear while on campus!

6) Leggings

The most popular fashion item that can “never go out of style” and is worn in any season are leggings. This simple piece of fashion has captured my heart, as it can be paired with a cute top, skirt, or dress along with a pair of knee high heeled boots for a professional look.  Or if you’re feeling more casual you can take the layer route by pairing it with a sweater, a tank top, with a vibrant cardigan on top and your choice of combat, ankle, or Ugg boots to finish off the look.

According to Justine Carreon from www.elle.com, “… styled under dresses and skirts proving it’s about time we embraced the cozy look.”

This is another winter fashion essential that will continue to be a must have for when I only have one class for the day.

7) Skinny Jeans

A must have that will keep you warm while on the go and have you quoting Beyoncé (“I woke up like this”) are the popular skinny jeans. These aren’t just any type of jeans, these are the skinny jeans and are the first piece of clothing I always pick when in need of a cute pair of bottoms to complete my chic winter ensemble.

Whether you choose a pastel and vibrant color or a classic black to wear with your choice of boots, skinny jeans will always keep you looking classy!

 8) Boots

The most incredible part about winter fashion is being able to wear any type of boots to keep your toes toasty in the cold. From combat and the knee high riding boots for a casual look, to the classy high heeled, and ankle wedge boots for the professional look, each type of boot is different and creatively made to make your outfit feel even more beautiful.

According to Fawnia Soo Hoo from www.glamour.com, knee high boots are super essential for a professional winter look, saying, “Worn with tights and a longish pencil skirt, knee-high boots are totally office-appropriate (and will keep your legs warm).”

If you’re like me and in a rush to class, boots are an amazing completion to your winter ensemble.

With so many different varieties of clothing to choose from, nothing says fashionably late like wearing your favorite winter essentials to campus!
