Increasing Creativity Through Meditation

By Aurelie Mathieu on November 26, 2012

Even the most creative and experienced writers have to deal with writer’s block at some point in time. It so happened that mine lasted a few months which is more than I can afford. My flow of creativity was just absent and I just could not get myself to write anything that did not catch my attention. My only hope was that this was a temporary phase and thankfully, it was.

As soon as I started meditating, I received an abundance of creativity in many different areas of my life, including writing. It’s all because of the 21-Day Meditation Challenge by Deepak Chopra that I discovered from watching Oprah’s OWN Network. Deepak Chopra has always been an inspirational figure for me when it came to spirituality, and living life on the right path so this initiative had all of my attention. In addition to meditating, I decided to read his book, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams which was life changing! The book not only gave me a boost in confidence and determination, but it made me understand how meditation could be beneficial and necessary.

The first time I meditated, my thoughts were everywhere. One thing Deepak Chopra pointed out is to just let them flow and not worry about quieting them down because that is a thought in itself. Being silent for a period of time makes you realize how much time we have. A minute is longer that we think but we never sit still long enough to realize it. There is plenty of time in the day to get everything that we need to get done, done. It also allows you to connect with yourself and to realize how important you truly are. Through meditation, I got a better understanding of what the soul is and with that awareness, creativity started flowing abundantly in every area of my life. Practicing the spiritual laws of success in addition to meditation had me revolutionize the way I see life. With my new interpretations, came new ways to express myself and envision the way I see myself, and my future. Now, when I get a creativity burst, I instantly write it down and develop them further when I get more time.

With meditation, I have been able to reconnect with my inner emotions that had been muted through the turbulences of my life. It’s pronounced in the way I see everything in life. Nothing is too small to be noticed anymore. Ever since I opened my eyes to the reality of life, I started noticing so many things that were always present around me, but I never took the time to acknowledge. Florida State University is surrounded by nature but I never took the time out to enjoy it. I would rather be in the buildings that shielded me from reality. I even started appreciating every breath I take, I’m just thankful for the happiness and joy I’m experiencing. It has also empowered my confidence in a way I never thought possible. I always knew I was confident, it helped me get this far in life. People have not been able to bring me down since my adolescent years, but I truly understand my confidence and high self-esteem. Now because of meditation I understand why I believe in myself, and I was able to identify the factors that I need to work on in order to increase my confidence to the point that I will be able to fulfill my calling.

There is a spiritual revolution going on around the world and it will not only benefit writers, but anyone trying to maximize their talents in order to spread love, joy and peace around the world. That journey is personal and will vary by experience but if it’s anything like mine, it will be worth it. There are many tools to help you meditate on the Internet and many great books that explain it. If you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out to any inspirational figures in your life or online.
