Why It's Ok To Stay Home Over The Summer

By Carelyn Tiburcio on July 8, 2016

When I imagined summer vacation, I saw myself traveling to different countries and exploring cool new places. I envisioned myself jumping from plane to plane, awaiting a new adventure everyday. I saw myself occupied by something every single day. But, things didn’t exactly turn out as I planned. You see, financial issues kept my summer fantasy an actual fantasy. In reality, I stayed home over the summer and I was bummed out about it. But now that I look at it, being at home isn’t so bad. Here’s why:

You Get to Sleep In

That’s pretty much self-explanatory. You barely have any responsibility when you stay home over the summer. There’s no need to turn on an alarm. No more getting up at unreasonable times. You get to wake up at whatever time you want and get to fall asleep whenever you want. Who doesn’t like to feel well rested throughout the day?

 You Can Binge Watch Shows

Since you’re home, might as well catch up on the shows that you haven’t watched in a while. Why not start a new show while you’re at it? Test your binge watching skills and figure out how many episodes you can finish in a day. It’s the perfect time to get emotionally attached to a series before responsibilities start pouring in fall semester.

You Have Time to Read the Books That You Want

Throughout fall and spring semester, I have made a list of books that I have been dying to read. I started reading a book during fall semester and that was a horrible idea. Studying, essays, and extra curricular activities got in the way. When I had free time to read, I usually ended up falling asleep. You probably have gone through a similar situation. Well, now you have time to finish that book and start brand new ones.

You Have the Opportunity to Try New Recipes

You know what I’m talking about. Those recipes that you’ve pinned on your Pinterest food board but never had the time to do. Well, now you have all the time in the world to cook and perfect them. There are so many different spices, vegetables, and sauces to taste and experiment with. Now’s also the time to take notes from your parents cooking as well. Trust me, it’ll be beneficial for you to know how to make some home cooked meals. Cooking is all about trial and error. It’s the perfect time to try out those recipes.
