Clown Sightings Continue in Florida and Alabama

By Tiffany Battle on September 17, 2016

Creepy clowns continue to unnerve people across the southeastern states with the latest reported activity in Pensacola, FL and Flomaton, AL.

The Pensacola Police Department has received many calls of clown sightings, and a Facebook page called “Flomo Klown” has been created, with someone posting borderline threatening messages.

Thursday, September 15, 2016 some Escambia county schools in Alabama were locked down due to a suspicious call received by a student at Flomaton High School. Sightings in other states have reported clowns chasing children down the street, and even attempting to lure them into the woods with candy and money.

However, there have been numerous false reports to surface since the beginning of the clown conspiracy. Two people in Hogansville, GA were arrested for false reports that they saw clowns in a white van trying to abduct children. A woman in Pensacola posted a disturbing video of a clown she supposedly stumbled upon in the woods, only to later admit that it was faked.

Although both the Pensacola and Escambia County Police Departments want to take the clown threats seriously, they aren’t sure what to make of the situation.

Assistant Police Chief Tommi Lyter believes there is no criminal activity involved with the clowns, but that they are scaring people for fun. Alabama law enforcement has made it clear that they are taking the threats against Flomaton High School as credible and will see that justice is done against those responsible. One adult and three teenagers are now facing charges for the school threat.

So many questions are still unanswered. Are these the same few clowns in every state, or is there a giant band of them? Could this be a cult, or a (seriously messed up) joke? Are we actually in danger? Is there anything we can do about it?

Unfortunately, there is no consensus yet.

Some skeptics believe it’s all a marketing ploy for the upcoming remake of IT (2017), while others insist it’s something far more sinister. More unsettling than the creepy faces, overalls and disturbing stares is the mystery of it all. And how can anyone know for sure when so many are making false reports and causing everyone to doubt the possibly valid threat?

One thing is for sure: a prank has gone too far when it causes entire schools to go on lock down, and if there are people in this world who get their kicks just from scaring children, then maybe they should be treated as criminals just the same.
