7 Free Online Study Sites Every Student Should Use

By Ian Acosta on April 14, 2017

Studying is difficult. It can be not only mentally draining but also physically draining. However as some of you well know, a certain amount is needed in order to ace your exams and keep your GPA up. The biggest obstacle to all of this? Time.

As a college student, your time is invaluable. There is never enough of it in the day to seemingly get every task done. From group projects and lectures to discussions and campus jobs, carving out an hour or two of daily study time sometimes seems impossible. What is the next best solution? Studying for an optimal amount in as efficient a manner as possible. These websites will give you some tips and tricks to make your study time as useful and as efficient as possible.

1. GoConqr

GoConqr is a great sight for visual learners. The great aspect of this site is the mind maps feature. The feature creates a web of information for whatever topic you want to create. By using various colors and breaking down topics piece by piece visually onto this “map” it will aid in memorization and visualization of a topic to see how every piece is broken down and connected to the overall subject.

This can be great for multiple choice or fill in the blank tests where questions require you to know how a certain aspect of a given topic is related to another. In addition to its unique feature, the site offers flashcards for memorization, a note app to jot down any important points, and self-created quizzes and assessments to challenge your mastery of the topic. This site also offers versatility in terms of a mobile app as well for learning on the go!

2. Quizlet

My go-to site for memorization is Quizlet. With the creation of an account, users can create sets in any subject they would like to study. From there Quizlet creates flashcards, quizzes, practice tests, and matching games based on the set created. For me, this helped with homework, quizzes, and studying due to the fact that I am able to study questions and answers from various sets to deepen the variety of my studying.

New to Quizlet is called Quizlet Learn which allows you to create a study plan to track your progress, create study reminders, and set defined goals to get you on the path to success.

3. Evernote

Evernote allows for efficient notetaking across various mediums such as tablets, phones, and laptops. This allows you to utilize multiple devices and have your study notes at your disposal whenever you please. Not only that, you can also share your notes with others and they can add valuable information or notes you may have missed.

One practical use of Evernote that I have seen others use is to create collaborative study guides to share with the class. Invite enough people to contribute to an Evernote, and in no time, you can get a foolproof study guide with notes and concepts that you may have missed or not even thought about.

4. StudyBlue

Going off of the collaborative nature, StudyBlue utilizes that aspect in a major way. StudyBlue connects students through similar learning goals and subjects. This collaborative aspect allows fellow students to share study materials such as flashcards, study guides, interactive quizzes, notes, and much more.

By registering and including class-specific information, Study Blue can connect students of the same class to optimize and create joint notetaking and studying for best results. Like many sites mentioned, you can create a study plan, take notes, create study guides, and quiz yourself on the mastery of the topic all while sharing with your friends and classmates. Studying is always easier when you have someone to help!

5. Marinara Timer

Despite the odd name, Marinara Timer is a site dedicated to getting the most productivity out of you as possible. Created based on the Pomodoro method of productivity i.e. working for 25 minutes followed by a 5-minute break, the site allows you to customize your study schedule to get the most effectiveness from your study time. Breaks are a necessity and sometimes students forget that part of it. Increase your attention span, focus, and output with your very own Marinara Timer.

6. StudyStack

StudyStack lets users create flashcards and use other sets others have made. The priority here is memorization. Based on your performance, the site will constantly repeat incorrect cards until they are down pat. In addition to flashcards, other games such as hangman, matching, and even unscrambling help you with memorization of whatever subject you happen to be studying.

7. Schooltraq

Have trouble staying organized and finding the time to finish assignments and quizzes, and finding time to study? Schooltraq helps you create an online digital planner to help map out due dates for assignments, create study schedules, and even a daily planner for the week. For those who need to be organized and have a roadmap of what their study schedule looks like, Schooltraq is the best tool for it.
