FSU Intramural Sports: As Recreational As You Want It
The great thing about being in college, is that for the first time in your life you have the freedom to try virtually anything you want to. Some people join cool clubs, others take interesting classes, and plenty of students take advantage of the intramural sports program offered here at Florida State University. For the new semester especially, these programs are easy to be a part of for freshmen and returning students alike. Intramural sports are a great way to get active, to meet new people, or simply just have fun.
There are always teams looking for prospective new members on the ‘FSU Intramural Free Agents’ Facebook page, so browsing through posts or even creating your own is simple. The registration process is ridiculously easy; for the most part, all you have to do is show up with your FSU ID. If you can’t find a team that fits you, just create a new one. Pretty much all you need to do is take a short, online captain’s exam and register your team.
The games are normally one night a week, and you and your team can decide on a specific time that works with everyone’s busy schedules. Any outside practices are left up to the students to organize, so whether you want an active or a laid-back experience is up to you. (Bonus: FSU’s sports facilities are super nice.)
And the best part of all of this, is that there’s a sport and a team for everyone. Whether you have been playing baseball since you were five and want a competitive team, or you have never kicked a soccer ball in your life and just want to try it out, there’s likely a division to suit your level.
FSU offers everything from tennis, to dodgeball on trampolines. Here’s a list of fun activities to consider trying out.
Basketball
Who doesn’t love basketball? Well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but a lot of people really do enjoy it.
College Pick Em
For those who want an activity with less of a time commitment, College Pick Em is basically fantasy football for college students. Go Noles!
Dodgeball
There’s nothing more nostalgic than chucking balls at each other from across that line on the gym floor. Growing up doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun!
Battleship
In case you didn’t know, this is no board game. Instead, you have teams of four people in each canoe, trying to sink their opponents using nothing but their wits and buckets of water. You sunk my battleship!
Golf League
Take advantage of Florida’s most pleasant seasons to be outside. Getting to smack things with clubs is only an added perk. Foreeeeee!
IM Fishing Classic
FSU’s annual fishing tournament is officially underway. All you need to be a part of it, is a partner and a fishing rod!
Flag Football
With how big football is at FSU, it’s really no surprise that flag football is the most popular IM sport.
Kan Jam & Spikeball
Easy and enjoyable lawn and beach games are available at an FSU sports facility near you!
Kickball
This timeless game has been revived and upgraded for your enjoyment. Except this time participation is not mandatory, just very fun.
Soccer
Whether you’re a seasoned player, a beginner looking to meet new people, or somewhere in between, IM soccer has a division for you!
Sand Volleyball
The sunshine state wouldn’t quite be complete without sand volleyball. For volleyball lovers whose passion can’t be contained within the confines of a gym, this is the sport for you!
Sky Zone Dodgeball
It’s dodgeball. On trampolines. TRAMPOLINES.
Softball
Whether your team is open or co-ed, the best thing about softball is that it’s guaranteed to be a home-run-hitting fun time for everyone.
Swim Meet
Swimming is a sport that everyone can enjoy. Swimming with an awesome team cheering you on? Just an added bonus.
Team Bowling
You don’t have to be a professional bowler to love this sport. In fact, most people are just there for a cool time and even cooler teammates!
Tennis
IM tennis offers both singles and doubles registration. So whether you want to lone-wolf it or team up with a partner is up to you!
Ultimate Frisbee
A deceptively active sport. Either way, everyone there always gives their all and has a blast in the process!
Volleyball
Serve, spike, and dive into volleyball this semester! Men’s, women’s, or co-rec teams are available for any FSU Nole who wants to play!
Wallyball
It’s pretty much just volleyball played in a racquetball court. Only 3x bouncier. And yes, it is as fun as it sounds.
Wiffleball
Another playground-classic sport! Looking for a more laid-back sport to enjoy? Come out and play a lighthearted game of wiffleball!
Innertube Water Polo
It’s like regular water polo; just with less swimming. Either way, it’s bound to be a fun time!
