College students usually opt to rent a place rather than buy. The majority of today’s college students are drowning in debt – nowhere near financially stable enough to fork over a down payment. When you rent a place to live, there are several things you aren’t allowed to do to it — and one of those things might be putting holes in the walls. Hanging up pictures might be okay with your landlord, but putting in a new set of cabinetry definitely isn’t.

Most college students have to live with roommates, and if they somehow snag a studio apartment, the bathroom is incredibly tiny. With roommates, it’s likely that you’ll be sharing. So what do you do about organizing all of your bathroom essentials? There’s not much storage and you brought way more than what you really have room for. Since there’s no way your landlord would possibly approve your request to install a brand new wall organization system in your bathroom, here are some ways you can include organization in your small bathroom without breaking out your drill:

1. Cute accent cabinets.

You can easily find a cute little corner cabinet to stow away toilet paper in your bathroom. You might not be able to squeeze all of your towels, hair accessories, and your spread of lotions, but a small cabinet might give you just enough space for a few things in your tiny bathroom.

Since we’re all in a financial pickle, a bathroom cabinet doesn’t have to be pricey. Check around your local secondhand shops or jump onto Facebook marketplace to look for someone who’s selling something that’s just gently used.

If you’re not happy with the way your cabinet looks once you get your hands on it, just paint it another color! Accent cabinets are to die for in tiny bathrooms. Your friends will be gushing about your decor ideas when they visit!

2. Utilize your countertop space.

You might be one of those people who like to keep your countertops clean (I definitely understand you!). But in a tiny bathroom, you might have to give up your preferences to make sure your items are organized neatly. Take advantage of any countertop space that you have with organizers that will sit on top of your vanity.

Small carousels, baskets, or shelves will hold a lot of your stuff and you won’t feel overwhelmed by all of your things just laying around everywhere. If you overlook the space you have on your vanity, it’s going to be much harder to organize your tiny bathroom.

3. Interior door storage.

Underneath your vanity, you likely have a small space to cram in all of your things. You’ll quickly fill that, and you’ll be searching for somewhere else to store all of your hair styling tools. Utilize the back of these cabinet doors with hairdryer holders or over-the-door racks. You’ll be able to store a lot more than you think if you utilize every square inch.

4. Corner storage in your shower.

Corner storage is the best. And when it comes to finding homes for your various shampoos, conditioners, and body washes, you’ll need a corner storage rod for your shower. The little baskets will easily hold all of your items and you’ll be able to access them while you’re in the shower!

5. Use an over-the-toilet shelf.

Whether it’s for storing toilet paper or housing all of your makeup, if you buy one of those racks that fit over your toilet, you won’t have to use a drill to create a bathroom organization system. Not to mention, adding a rack over the toilet can spruce up the overall look of your tiny bathroom in addition to giving you some extra storage solutions.

6. Keep the cabinet under your vanity nice and organized with bins and racks.

You can buy racks that will stack on top of each other and utilize all the vertical space under your sink. If you throw all of your items underneath without any sort of organizational system, you’ll quickly fill the space without feeling like you’ve found a place for anything. It’s frustrating to have a small bathroom with nowhere to store all of your stuff!

When you rent, you rarely have the freedom to decorate your place as you truly would if it were your own. When you rent a place with a tiny bathroom, you’re even more limited as to how you can organize all of your bathroom essentials. Without taking out a drill and some heavy-duty screws, you might feel like you have no options for bathroom organization. But that’s simply not true!

You have several options for bathroom organization that doesn’t include calling your dad and reminding him to bring his level. Search through some ideas online and then consider purchasing organization items that could really help you utilize every small inch of your bathroom space.
